Elijah P. Johnson, a 21-year-old Black male from Cincinnati, OH, tragically lost his life on January 10, 2016. He was killed in a targeted shooting outside an Ameristop convenience store in Mount Healthy, Ohio. Johnson was sitting in a car with two other men when a suspect approached the vehicle and began firing into it. Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene, while his friend Dominique Brooks, 22, was critically injured and later succumbed to his injuries in July 2016.
The suspect,
Tyler Crawford, was arrested shortly after the incident and charged with aggravated murder and felonious assault. Crawford was later indicted on three counts of murder. The investigation revealed that the shooting was a targeted attack, and the three men in the car were specifically chosen by the shooter.
The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office took over the investigation, and a second crime scene was established down the road from the convenience store. Despite the arrest and charges, the case drew significant attention due to the nature of the crime and the loss of two young lives.
