On April 14, 2023, 48-year-old Chad Everett Fitzer of Ashtabula, Ohio, was found deceased in a residence on Harbor Avenue. He had been reported missing since April 5. Authorities discovered his body concealed in a crawl space at the rear of the house, with evidence indicating he had suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
Subsequently, 53-year-old Laura Regina White, a resident of the same Harbor Avenue address, was arrested and charged with multiple felonies, including aggravated murder
with a firearm specification, murder with a firearm specification, felonious assault with a handgun, tampering with evidence, and gross abuse of a corpse. If convicted, she faces a potential life sentence.
In October 2023, a competency hearing determined that White was not competent to stand trial at that time, though her condition was deemed restorable. She was ordered to undergo treatment at a state mental hospital, with plans for a subsequent evaluation to assess her competency for trial.
As of now, the case remains pending, with further legal proceedings contingent upon White's restoration to competency.
