Patrolman William Douglas Glover Jr., aged 30, was shot and killed on November 17, 1997, while pursuing a robbery suspect in Ashtabula, Ohio. Glover, who had served with the Ashtabula Police Department for only six months, observed the suspect and approached him. The suspect fled on foot, leading to a foot chase during which the suspect turned and shot Glover in the right shoulder.
