Alexis Xavier Colon Mook, a 20-year-old male of Hispanic ethnicity, tragically lost his life on January 27, 2014, in Ashtabula, Ohio. He was pronounced dead at the scene of a shooting on Norman Avenue, near St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Mook-Colon was shot multiple times during the incident. His mother, Lydia Aviles, and his younger brother, Benny Alexander Mook-Colon, were also injured in the shooting.
Lydia Aviles succumbed to her injuries the following day at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.
The suspects in the shooting were described as two black males wearing masks and dark clothing. They reportedly opened fire inside the residence before fleeing the scene on foot. The Ashtabula Police Department launched an extensive search for the suspects, covering various neighborhoods and executing a search warrant at the crime scene. Despite their efforts, the suspects remained at large.
The Bureau of Criminal Investigation was involved in the investigation, and local radio stations warned residents to stay indoors and lock their doors. The community was deeply affected by the tragedy, with Kent State University Ashtabula campus going into lockdown mode and canceling classes for the day.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Alexis Xavier Colon Mook.
