In the early morning hours of May 24, 2023, the life of 33-year-old Adam Philip Duarte was tragically cut short in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Duarte, a White / Caucasian male, was fatally shot multiple times at a casita located in the 2400 block of Mountain Road, near Rio Grande. The violent encounter unfolded around 5 a.m., but its roots traced back to an altercation earlier that evening at an adult entertainment venue called Fantasy World.

According to reports, Duarte had been involved in a dispute with Bryan Perello and another individual at the club. A friend of Duarte's later told police that the argument was with Perello and a friend of Perello's who allegedly owed Duarte a significant amount of money over drugs. Later that morning, Duarte's mother, who was at her home on the same property, heard approximately ten gunshots. When police arrived, they found Duarte on the floor in a pool of blood. He was transported to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after his arrival.

The investigation into Duarte's murder led authorities to identify two suspects. Surveillance footage captured a black pickup truck, later linked to Bryan Perello, fleeing the scene after the gunshots. Further evidence in the form of shoe prints matching Perello's footwear was found at both the strip club and Duarte's residence. On December 8, 2024, Bryan Perello, then 24 years old, was arrested and charged with open murder and conspiracy in connection with Duarte's death. He is currently being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center.

A second suspect, Marisa Chavez, was also implicated in the crime. A warrant was issued for her arrest on charges of an open count of murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder. Chavez was apprehended by law enforcement at the Kansas City International Airport. Ballistics analysis from the crime scene indicated that two different firearms were used in the shooting, supporting witness accounts of two shooters. While two individuals have been arrested, the case remains open as authorities continue to investigate.
