Brandon Cleveland, a 13-year-old Black male from Cleveland, Ohio, was a student at Euclid Middle School who was remembered by loved ones as being funny and outgoing. His life was cut short in a sudden and tragic shooting in the summer of 2023.
On Sunday, July 30, 2023, around 12 p.m., a shooting was reported in the 3400 block of East 98th Street in Cleveland’s Kinsman neighborhood. Emergency medical officials responded to the scene and transported Brandon to Rainbow Babies and
Children’s Hospital. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The Cleveland Division of Police immediately launched an investigation into the shooting. According to a police sergeant, the initial investigation indicated that Brandon had been shot by another child, who was 11 years old. One police source described the shooting as accidental. It was not publicly stated what led to the incident or whether the two children knew one another.
Authorities confirmed that the 11-year-old accused shooter was taken into custody. He was later released into the care of his legal guardian. As of August 2023, the incident remained under investigation.
