On September 16, 2023, at approximately 12:10 p.m., Columbus police officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 600 block of South 22nd Street in the city's east side. Upon arrival, they found 36-year-old James Jones suffering from a gunshot wound. Jones was transported to Grant Medical Center in critical condition and was pronounced dead at 1 p.m.
