On October 11, 2023, at approximately 4:30 a.m., Columbus police responded to a report of an unresponsive individual in the 1300 block of Morse Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered 39-year-old Matthew Hurt, who was pronounced dead at the scene by medics at 4:39 a.m. A subsequent post-mortem examination by the Franklin County Coroner's Office revealed signs of foul play, leading authorities to rule Hurt's death a homicide.
Investigators determined that Hurt had suffered a gunshot wound to his back. Evidence collected at the scene included a bullet and a cartridge case. The Columbus Division of Police Homicide Unit is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding Hurt's death.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with this case. Detectives are seeking assistance from the public to identify two individuals who may have information pertinent to the investigation.
