On November 11, 2023, 14-year-old Logan Matthew Taylor was accidentally shot at a residence on East Lucius Avenue in Youngstown, Ohio. He was transported to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on November 13.
Following the incident, a 13-year-old boy, identified as a friend of Logan's, was charged with murder in connection to the shooting.
In August 2024, after a trial in Mahoning County Juvenile Court, the boy was found guilty of reckless homicide, a third-degree felony. Judge Theresa Dellick determined that while the shooting was reckless, there was no intent to kill.
Logan was an eighth-grade student at East Middle School in Youngstown. He had a passion for music, football, and riding his dirt bike, and was known for his helpful nature. He is survived by his mother, Bobbi Gray; stepfather, Jason Gray; three brothers; two sisters; and his grandparents.
In the wake of his passing, Logan's family made the compassionate decision to donate his organs, providing life-saving assistance to others in need. A private celebration of his life was held, and a GoFundMe campaign was established to assist with funeral expenses.
Logan's untimely death has profoundly affected his family, friends, and the Youngstown community, underscoring the critical importance of firearm safety and responsible gun ownership to prevent such tragedies.
