Alfred Evans, a 35-year-old patrolman for the Youngstown Police Department, tragically lost his life on November 5, 1911. Evans was shot and killed while investigating a suspicious person at around 4:00 AM. He encountered the man on West Front Street and began questioning him. When the man was told he was going to be searched, he suddenly turned and ran. The suspect took cover behind a nearby tree and opened fire on Patrolman Evans, striking him three times.
