On June 8, 2024, at approximately 3:25 p.m., Akron police responded to reports of a shooting near the intersection of Raymond and West Bartges Streets. Upon arrival, officers discovered 20-year-old Antwan James Edwards with a gunshot wound to his back. Tragically, Edwards was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed that Edwards died from a gunshot wound to the torso, officially ruling his death a homicide.
Witnesses reported seeing multiple male individuals fleeing the area immediately after the shooting. Despite the collection of shell casings and other evidence by detectives, no arrests have been made in connection with Edwards' death.
