Anthony Duane Tony Norman, a 32-year-old Black male, tragically lost his life on July 12, 2018, in Akron, Ohio. Norman was fatally shot in his vehicle at 963 Concord Avenue around 11:35 p.m. He was taken to Summa Akron City Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Two children, aged 10 and 13, who were in the car with him at the time, were also injured by gunfire but fortunately survived with non-life-threatening injuries.
The incident occurred when Norman drove to a home to
pick up the girls after they got their hair done. Before they could pull out of the driveway, someone opened fire on the car. The children told loved ones they were shielded by Norman during the attack. One of the children made a heartbreaking call to 911, during which she realized she had been shot.
Despite the tragic circumstances, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. The Akron Police Department continues to investigate the case, but it remains unsolved. The community has expressed deep concern over the violence and the impact it has on families, especially when children are involved.
Norman's death marked the fourth homicide in less than a week in Akron at that time, highlighting a spike in violence in the area. The Akron Police Department has taken more than 450 guns off the streets that year, but the violence continues to be a significant issue.
