Sincere Laishaun Morrow, a 19-year-old Black male from Akron, Ohio, tragically lost his life on December 30, 2020. He was fatally shot in the front yard of a residence located in the 900 block of Baughman Street. Morrow was discovered with gunshot wounds at approximately 11:15 p.m. and was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. His death was recorded as the 50th murder in Akron for the year 2020, a year that saw a record number of homicides in the city.
Following an investigation,
Akron police arrested Tayunte Griffin, a 21-year-old resident of Akron, on charges of murder in connection with Morrow's death. Griffin was taken into custody at the same address where the shooting occurred. The arrest was made based on evidence linking Griffin to the crime, and he was charged with the murder of Sincere Morrow.
Morrow was known to be a bright young man who had participated in the COMPASS program at Akron Municipal Court, which aims to guide young men towards a better path. Despite having faced some troubles, he was earnest about improving his life and had even scored a 1200 on the SAT without studying for it. His untimely death was a significant loss to his family, friends, and the community, who remembered him fondly and mourned his passing.
