In the early evening of June 30, 2026, a tragic incident unfolded in the 1200 block of Packard Drive in Akron, Ohio, resulting in the death of 15-year-old Josiah Harris. Josiah, born on July 30, 2010, was a triplet with two sisters and was known for his love of family, friends, football, and basketball. The unfortunate event began when a 14-year-old friend arrived at Josiah's home for a visit. As the friend approached the house, Josiah's dog ran towards him and began to attack, latching onto his arm.

In a desperate attempt to fend off the attacking animal, the 14-year-old pulled out a firearm and fired multiple shots. Tragically, while trying to pull the dog away from his friend, Josiah was struck by the gunfire. The 14-year-old then fled to a nearby house where family members called for emergency services. Josiah Harris was rushed to Akron Children's Hospital but was pronounced dead in the Emergency Department. The 14-year-old was also transported to the same hospital to be treated for the injuries he sustained during the dog attack.

Following an investigation by the Akron Police Department, the 14-year-old friend was taken into custody and is being held at the Summit County Juvenile Detention Center. He has been charged with negligent homicide, carrying concealed weapons, improperly discharging a firearm, and tampering with evidence. As the suspect is a juvenile, his identity has not been publicly released. The charges are allegations, and he is presumed innocent until proven delinquent in juvenile court. This case presents a heart-wrenching scenario of a friendly visit that turned fatal, leaving a family to mourn the sudden loss of a young life and another teenager facing serious legal consequences. As the legal proceedings are in their early stages, no information regarding a trial, conviction, or sentencing has been made available.
