Christopher Kenneth Archibeque, a 61-year-old resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico, tragically lost his life on October 13, 2024. The incident occurred in the parking lot of a Circle K convenience store located at the intersection of 8th Street SW and Avenida Dolores Huerta in the South Valley area of Albuquerque.
At approximately 8:03 PM, a ShotSpotter activation detected two gunshots at the location.
Albuquerque Police Department officers were dispatched to the scene at 8:06 PM in response to reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they found bystanders performing CPR on Archibeque, who had sustained gunshot wounds to his chest and left arm. Despite the efforts of both civilians and officers to save his life, Archibeque was pronounced dead at the scene.
In the days following the incident, APD detectives conducted an investigation into the fatal shooting. On October 15, 2024, they arrested 29-year-old Paul John Ortiz in connection with Archibeque's death. Ortiz was charged with an open count of murder and booked into custody.
Born in San Fernando, California, Christopher Kenneth Archibeque had been a resident of Albuquerque at the time of his passing. He was preceded in death by his father, Gerald Archibeque. The loss of Archibeque has been mourned by the community, and his death marks another tragic instance of gun violence in the area.
