In a heartbreaking turn of events on December 11, 2023, six-year-old Black / African American female Zi'Myra Patterson was found deceased in a Las Vegas, Nevada, apartment. The young girl, along with her mother and older sister, became the victims of a tragic murder-suicide.

The grim discovery was made at the Loreto & Palacio Apartments in the northwest valley. Authorities were called to the scene after the brother of the suspect, Marvin Ray Patterson, 42, went to check on him. Inside, they found the bodies of Zi'Myra, her mother Schinara Patterson, 34, and her 14-year-old sister, Ki'Ziah Cone. All three had died from gunshot wounds to the head, and their deaths were ruled homicides. Marvin Patterson was also found deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

At the time of the incident, Marvin Patterson was on house arrest. He was facing multiple charges, including five counts of lewdness with a child under 14 and two counts of sexual assault against a child under 16. His bail had been significantly reduced from $100,000 to $10,000 just a year before the tragic event, allowing for his release on house arrest. An 11-year-old boy, Zi'Myra's brother, was also found at the scene with critical injuries but was still alive and transported to a local hospital. The incident occurred just one day after Schinara Patterson's birthday.
