In a quiet Las Vegas neighborhood, the morning of May 11, 2024, was shattered by violence that claimed the life of 16-year-old Jovan Wright Bullock. The Black/African American teenage male was outside his home in the 2300 block of Goldhill Way at approximately 10:45 a.m. when he was approached by another male, described as being in his late teens. After a brief verbal exchange, the encounter tragically escalated, and Jovan was shot in the chest.
Neighbors reported hearing the gunshot and seeing Jovan stumble and collapse between the houses. He was rushed to University Medical Center, but his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead. The Clark County coroner's office later confirmed the cause of death as a gunshot wound and ruled it a homicide.
The investigation into Jovan's death led to the arrests of three individuals on June 26, 2024. The suspects were identified as 18-year-old Doir Jenkins, 17-year-old Robert Saulsberry, and his 15-year-old brother, Messiah Neely. All three were charged with open murder, robbery, and conspiracy to commit murder. Jenkins and Saulsberry were booked into the Clark County Detention Center, while Neely was taken to the Clark County Juvenile Hall. The investigation revealed that the three had planned to rob Jovan of a pistol.
During the robbery, as Jovan reportedly reached for a second gun, he was shot by Saulsberry. After the suspects fled the scene, they discovered that the gun they had stolen from Jovan was actually a BB gun. Surveillance video captured the three suspects confronting Jovan in front of his home moments before the fatal shooting. The footage shows a brief interaction before Jovan walks towards his house, with the three suspects following him. Seconds later, the suspects are seen running away from the scene. The tragic incident left Jovan's family, friends, and the local community mourning the loss of a young life to gun violence.
