In a tragic sequence of events on March 13, 2014, a young White/Caucasian male, 23-year-old Zachary Girdner, lost his life in Las Vegas, Nevada. The incident began with a heated argument between Girdner and another man, Joseph Lucero, at Lucero's apartment situated on Las Vegas Boulevard. Las Vegas police were called to the residence around 7:20 p.m.
in response to the dispute, but upon their arrival, they found no signs of a disturbance.
The situation took a grim turn just ten minutes later when the Nevada Highway Patrol responded to a multi-vehicle accident on the 215 Beltway near Eastern Avenue. Girdner was discovered in his Jeep, which had crashed into three other vehicles. It was soon realized that Girdner had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The Clark County Coroner's office later confirmed that the cause of death was the gunshot wounds and ruled it a homicide.
Investigators quickly identified Joseph Lucero as the primary suspect in Girdner's shooting. However, before an arrest could be made, the case took another dark turn. On March 20, 2014, Lucero was found deceased near the intersection of Tropicana Avenue and Spencer Street. His death was also ruled a homicide by the Clark County Coroner's office. With the sole suspect in Zachary Girdner's murder also dead, the investigation into his death was closed, leaving a somber and unresolved conclusion to the violent altercation that claimed two lives.
