In the late hours of a Tuesday night in Las Vegas, a planned meeting in the east valley took a fatal turn, ending the life of 19-year-old Ammir Smith Rhodes-Foreman. The young Black man was fatally shot on May 14, 2024, in what police have described as a marijuana deal that escalated into deadly violence.
The incident unfolded at approximately 10:20 p.m. within an apartment complex located on the 300 block of Sturgeon Lane, near the intersection of Nellis Boulevard and Stewart Avenue.
It was there that Rhodes-Foreman had arranged to meet for the transaction. Gunfire suddenly erupted, and he was struck. By the time law enforcement officers arrived at the scene, the alleged shooter had already fled. Rhodes-Foreman was found and pronounced dead within the complex.
In the days that followed the shooting, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department identified a suspect. Jeremiah Smith, 21, was taken into custody and booked into the Clark County Detention Center. He is facing serious charges in connection with the death of Rhodes-Foreman, including one count of murder, one count of conspiracy to murder, and two counts of robbery with a deadly weapon. Smith was scheduled for a court appearance shortly after his arrest.
