On January 12, 2023, at approximately 6:30 a.m., Minneapolis police responded to reports of a shooting at a homeless encampment near 15th Avenue South and 6th Street South in the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood. Upon arrival, officers discovered 27-year-old Adnan Mohamed Ali unconscious with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to Hennepin Healthcare, where he was pronounced dead shortly before 7 a.m.
