In the early morning hours of January 12, 2023, the life of a 27-year-old Black male, Adnan Mohamed Ali, was tragically cut short in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Responding to reports of gunfire shortly before 6:30 a.m., police discovered Ali at a homeless encampment situated near 15th Avenue South and South 6th Street. He was found suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds.
Emergency responders transported Ali to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was
pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed that Ali's death was a homicide caused by gunshot wounds.
The shooting occurred at the Samatar Crossing encampment, located in the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood. In the immediate aftermath of the incident, Minneapolis police began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ali's death. However, at the time of the initial reports, no arrests had been made, and no suspects were publicly identified. The investigation into the death of Adnan Mohamed Ali remains ongoing.
