On the evening of Friday, October 6, 2017, a male resident of Phoenix, Arizona, Omar Gonzalez Martinez, was walking home after purchasing a meal from a local Mexican restaurant. His path took him along north 23rd Avenue, a familiar route that should have led to the safety of his own residence. However, the night took a tragic and violent turn in the area of 2300 West Heatherbrae Drive.
At approximately 10:49 p.m., Phoenix Police Officers were dispatched to the intersection of 23rd Avenue
and Heatherbrae Drive. Upon their arrival, they discovered Mr. Gonzalez Martinez lying in the roadway. He had been shot multiple times and succumbed to his wounds at the scene.
Investigators determined that he was ambushed while on his walk home. Despite their efforts, the individual or individuals responsible for his murder have not been identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with the case. The shooting has been described as a seemingly senseless act of violence, as there was no readily apparent motive for the attack on Mr. Gonzalez Martinez, who was not known to have any enemies.
