In the summer of 2024, a shooting in a Maryvale neighborhood tragically ended the life of 62-year-old Jose Perez Olvera. On the morning of July 24th, Phoenix police were called to a residence near 48th Avenue and Holly Street around 9:55 a.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, officers discovered Olvera suffering from a critical gunshot wound. Phoenix Fire Department personnel were also at the scene and pronounced Olvera deceased.
