On the evening of July 27, 2024, Mario Lamont Burley, a 20-year-old Black/African American male, was walking with a group of people in the 2600 block of 3rd Avenue South in the Whittier neighborhood of Minneapolis. At approximately 7:13 p.m., the scene was shattered by gunfire, and Burley was struck by a bullet in the abdomen. Emergency services were called, and he was quickly transported to Hennepin Healthcare for medical attention.
