On the evening of April 7, 2022, a 29-year-old Black / African American man named Devan Trevon Dampier of Minneapolis, Minnesota, was fatally shot in the city's Hawthorne neighborhood. The incident marked the 20th homicide in Minneapolis that year. Shortly after 8 p.m., Minneapolis Police Department officers were dispatched to the 1100 block of 21st Avenue North following 911 calls and a ShotSpotter activation indicating gunfire.
