On New Year's Day 2023, a grim discovery was made in a rural ditch in Miami County, Kansas. A passerby found 41-year-old Hispanic female, Jennifer Christine Rodriguez of Belton, Missouri, suffering from a gunshot wound near 299th Street and Somerset Road in the vicinity of Paola. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene around 7:30 p.m., and Rodriguez was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. She succumbed to her injuries two days later, on January 3, 2023.
