On January 22, 2023, 35-year-old Cory Dale Riley of Salina, Kansas, was fatally shot at a residence in the 200 block of South 10th Street. Emergency responders transported him to Salina Regional Health Center, where he underwent surgery but, unfortunately, succumbed to his injuries.
Following the incident, authorities arrested 30-year-old Tyler Justeane Stanfield of Salina.
She was charged with multiple offenses, including first-degree murder, felon in possession of a firearm, unlawful discharge of a firearm, possession of a firearm by an addicted person, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Cory was born on March 19, 1987, in Anadarko, Oklahoma, to David L. Riley and the late Lisa Riley. He attended Salina South High School and worked as a landscaper. Known for his love of camping, fishing, family gatherings, music, wrestling, and Oklahoma University football, Cory was cherished for his sense of humor and his ability to make others laugh.
A celebration of Cory's life was held on February 5, 2023, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Salina. Family and friends gathered to share memories and honor his legacy. Donations were directed to Darcy Riley for the benefit of Cory's children, reflecting the community's support during this difficult time.
