In the early hours of April 20, 2022, the quiet streets of Salina, Kansas, were disturbed by what appeared to be a single-vehicle accident. Responding to the call around 12:25 a.m., officers arrived at the intersection of Front Street and Gypsum Avenue to find a green 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis. Inside, they made a grim discovery that would quickly pivot their investigation from a traffic incident to a homicide.
In the passenger seat was the body of 37-year-old Chad Lee Jarrad Devinny, a White male from Salina. It was soon apparent that Devinny had not died from injuries sustained in a crash; he had been shot.
As the investigation into Chad Devinny's death began, authorities quickly identified a person of interest. An arrest warrant was issued for Anthony Quentin Lopez-Garcia on charges of First Degree Murder and Criminal Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. The search for Lopez-Garcia, who was considered armed and dangerous, extended beyond the Salina city limits.
The case saw a significant breakthrough later that same day. Thanks to media coverage of the investigation, a resident in Kansas City, Missouri, recognized Lopez-Garcia and alerted the local authorities. The Kansas City Police Department located and apprehended Lopez-Garcia, taking him into custody on unrelated local charges. Following his arrest, arrangements were made for his extradition back to Salina to face the charges related to the murder of Chad Devinny.
