In the late afternoon of a Saturday in Salina, Kansas, first responders were dispatched to a residence at 1100 North 10th Street for what was reported as a medical emergency. Upon their arrival at approximately 4:26 p.m. on November 30, 2019, they discovered 52-year-old Phillip R. Grubbs Jr. deceased inside his home. The circumstances immediately prompted an investigation by the Salina Police Department.
As detectives began to piece together the events leading to Grubbs' death, their
focus soon turned to someone inside the home. The investigation led to the identification of a suspect, Phillip's wife, 60-year-old Melani Grubbs, who also resided at the North 10th Street address. She was subsequently arrested in connection with her husband's murder.
Following her arrest, Melani Grubbs was booked into the Saline County Jail. The authorities requested charges of second-degree murder and felon in possession of a firearm against her. At the time of the incident, it was reported that she had a previous conviction for theft and had been released from prison in September 2017. The police continued their investigation into the specific details surrounding the death of Phillip Grubbs.
