On September 26, 2008, a grim discovery was made in a residence at 611 S. Second Street in Salina, Kansas. Inside, authorities found the bodies of 22-year-old Earnest J. Jones Jr., a Black male, and Taryn K. Dechant, also 22. Both had been fatally shot. The scene was made even more tragic by the presence of two children, who were fortunately unharmed.
