In the late afternoon of Friday, February 17, 2023, a violent altercation in Pittsburg, Kansas, tragically ended the life of 51-year-old David Duane Mays, a White male from the nearby town of Weir. The incident unfolded around 2:30 p.m. near the address of 1023 N. Main Street. It was then that the Pittsburg Police Department received a distressing 911 call reporting a shooting.
