In the late hours of November 27, 2024, the life of Fedor Lee Warren Lomax, a 29-year-old Black / African American male, was tragically cut short in Pittsburg, Kansas. The events unfolded at an apartment complex located at 1116 South Elm Street. Just before 11 p.m., the sound of gunfire shattered the evening quiet, prompting a call to the Pittsburg Police Department.
When officers and emergency personnel arrived at the scene, they discovered Lomax inside one of the apartments, suffering from a gunshot wound. The individual responsible for the shooting had already fled the scene. Lomax was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the homicide began immediately, and detectives were able to swiftly identify a person of interest. The suspect was named as 25-year-old Kevin J. Hukill. Law enforcement tracked Hukill to a residence in the 300 block of East Park Street in Pittsburg. Initial attempts by the police to make contact with the occupants of the home were met with silence. This led to the securing of a search warrant, allowing officers to lawfully enter the residence in pursuit of the suspect.
In the early hours of Thanksgiving Day, the search of the East Park Street home culminated in the discovery of Hukill hiding in the attic. A police negotiator was successful in communicating with him, and after a period of negotiation, Hukill surrendered to the authorities at 5:33 a.m. and was taken into custody without further incident. He was subsequently booked into the Crawford County Jail. Hukill faces multiple charges, including suspicion of second-degree murder, felony interference with law enforcement, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Additionally, he was wanted on a pre-existing felony arrest warrant for failing to appear in court on a previous drug charge.
