In the quiet town of Pittsburg, Kansas, the evening of Sunday, April 5, 2020, was shattered by a tragic act of violence that claimed the life of David Buckley, a 53-year-old White/Caucasian male. The events unfolded inside his residence at 1313 W. Atkinson, where he lived with his son.
Shortly before 10 p.m. that night, the Crawford County Sheriff's Office received a startling 911 call. The caller, 29-year-old Michael J. Woodson, confessed to having just shot his father. Law enforcement officers were immediately dispatched to the home. Upon their arrival, they discovered David Buckley deceased inside the residence from a fatal gunshot wound.
Woodson was arrested at the scene without incident and taken into custody. He was subsequently booked into the Crawford County Jail on suspicion of first-degree murder. At the time of the initial reports, investigators were still working to understand the circumstances that led to the deadly confrontation between the father and son.
The investigation was a collaborative effort involving the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, the Pittsburg Police Department, and the Kansas Highway Patrol.
