In the early morning hours of August 20, 2023, the life of 36-year-old Justin E. Krogen, a White/Caucasian male from Pittsburg, Kansas, was tragically cut short. At approximately 1:15 AM, law enforcement and first responders were dispatched to 202 N. Locust St. in Pittsburg, following reports of a shooting. They arrived to find Krogen outside of a local establishment, Jimmy B's bar, with a fatal gunshot wound.
Despite the efforts of emergency personnel, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The initial investigation by the Pittsburg Police Department, with assistance from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, suggested that the shooting was an isolated incident, likely stemming from an argument. As investigators began to piece together the events of that night, they sought the public's help in identifying several individuals who were present at the bar and considered potential witnesses. The community responded to the appeal for information, aiding law enforcement in their efforts to understand the circumstances that led to Krogen's death. His body was sent to Kansas City for an autopsy to formally determine the cause of death.
As the investigation progressed, authorities identified a person of interest. This eventually led to a significant development in the case. On December 12, 2023, the U.S. Marshals Service apprehended 33-year-old Jemon Allen in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. A felony warrant had been issued for Allen's arrest by the 11th Judicial District Court of Crawford County, Kansas, on a charge of first-degree murder in connection with Justin Krogen's death.
Following his arrest and extradition to Kansas, Jemon Allen faced legal proceedings for his role in the death of Justin Krogen. He was ultimately convicted of voluntary manslaughter, aggravated battery, and aggravated assault for the killing of Krogen and the assault of another individual, Christina Krogen. On May 27, 2025, Allen pled guilty to the charges and was later sentenced to 127 months in prison. In addition to his prison sentence, he was ordered to pay $7,500 in restitution and will be required to register as a violent offender upon his release.
