On April 15, 2023, at approximately 4:46 p.m., Olathe police officers responded to a reported homicide near North Rogers Road and West 126th Street. Upon arrival, they discovered 19-year-old Jessica Hicks of Olathe, Kansas, with apparent gunshot wounds; she was pronounced dead at the scene. An 18-year-old male, later identified as Monterrio Spencer Jr. of Kansas City, Missouri, was also found with gunshot wounds and was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
