On a tragic spring afternoon in Olathe, Kansas, the life of 19-year-old Jessica Necole Hicks, a Black/African American female, was cut short. On April 15, 2023, at approximately 4:46 p.m., Olathe Police Officers were dispatched to the area of North Rogers Road and West 126th Street following reports of a homicide. Upon their arrival, they discovered Jessica, lovingly known as "Honey," inside a vehicle with apparent gunshot wounds.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The initial investigation revealed a complex and grim sequence of events. The incident is believed to have started in a parking lot in the 16700 block of West 127th Street. From there, it continued until the vehicle came to a stop outside a salon in the 12500 block of Rogers Road. Inside the car with Jessica was 18-year-old Monterrio Spencer Jr. of Kansas City, Missouri. He was also found with gunshot wounds and was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
As the investigation progressed, authorities determined that the incident was isolated to the two individuals inside the vehicle. The Olathe Police Department concluded that Jessica Hicks and Monterrio Spencer Jr. had shot each other. While the circumstances that led to this violent altercation remain under investigation, police have stated that they are not seeking any other suspects in connection with the deaths. The case has been classified as a homicide, and it has been reported that the primary suspect is deceased.
