On the evening of June 28, 2023, 30-year-old Kurel M. Hayes of Wichita, Kansas, was fatally shot. At approximately 10:36 p.m., police responded to reports of a shooting in the 500 block of North Gordon, near 2nd and Meridian. Upon arrival, officers found Hayes with a gunshot wound to his upper torso. He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition but later succumbed to his injuries.
