On a summer evening in Wichita, Kansas, the life of a 39-year-old Black man, Felix Whitfield, was tragically cut short. On July 16, 2023, just before 9 p.m., police were called to the 1800 block of South Exchange following reports of a shooting. There, in a driveway near Harry and McLean, they found Whitfield suffering from a gunshot wound.
Emergency medical services arrived at the scene and quickly transported him to a local hospital.
Despite their efforts, Whitfield succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. Investigators learned that his death was the result of a violent altercation.
According to police, Whitfield had been involved in a fight with an acquaintance when shots were fired. They emphasized that this was not a random act of violence. In the immediate aftermath, law enforcement officials stated that the investigation was in its early stages and that detectives were actively interviewing multiple individuals who may have witnessed the fatal encounter.
