On July 25, 2023, in Wichita, Kansas, 58-year-old Donald J. Eckert was found deceased from a gunshot wound in a residence on North Woodrow Avenue. The discovery was made around 7:30 a.m. by a woman arriving to drop off her child at an in-home daycare operating at the location. Upon noticing the door was unusually locked, she looked inside and saw Eckert and 50-year-old Vanessa Crawford, the daycare owner, both unresponsive.
