On the morning of July 25, 2023, a routine drop-off at an in-home daycare in Wichita, Kansas, turned into a scene of tragedy. A woman arriving with her child at the residence in the 1100 block of North Woodrow found the door, usually unlocked, secured. Peering through a window, she made a grim discovery: the bodies of 58-year-old Donald Eckert, a White male, and 50-year-old Vanessa Crawford, the daycare's operator. Both had been shot.
