On a Tuesday evening in Wichita, Kansas, the life of a 27-year-old Black / African American man, Quentin Gordon, was tragically cut short. On June 4, 2024, at approximately 9:27 p.m., police and emergency services were dispatched to an apartment complex in the 4800 block of East Funston following a 911 call reporting a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Gordon suffering from a gunshot wound.
Despite the efforts of first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Initial investigations by the Wichita Police Department suggested the shooting was not a random act of violence. Detectives believed that Gordon had been involved in an argument with another individual just before the fatal shot was fired. In the immediate aftermath, law enforcement began searching for leads, including looking for a black vehicle that was seen in the vicinity and asking the public for information on the whereabouts of two individuals, Anjaliyah S. Orange and Jeremiah Z. Walker, who they believed might have information relevant to the case.
The investigation progressed, and homicide investigators identified 23-year-old Jeremiah Walker as the primary suspect. On June 12, 2024, Walker was arrested in connection with Gordon's death. Police are no longer searching for Orange. Following his arrest, the details of the case were presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's Office. Walker has since been formally charged with second-degree murder and was awaiting a preliminary hearing in January 2025.
