In the early morning hours of August 18, 2024, the life of 26-year-old Malik J. Keith, a Black/African American male, was tragically cut short in Topeka, Kansas. He was quickly transported to a local hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries, marking the city's 12th homicide of the year.
Born on January 10, 1998, Keith was the
youngest of five siblings. His family relocated to Kansas in February 2000, where he would eventually become a standout basketball player at Highland Park High School. During the 2015-2016 season, his talent on the court earned him shared Player of the Year honors as he led his team to a fourth-place finish in the state's Class 5A tournament. Those who knew him remembered him not only for his athletic abilities but also for his respectful nature and positive influence on the community. An educator from his high school days described him as "unforgettable."
