On a cold Sunday night in Shreveport, Louisiana, the life of 18-year-old Gerald Jamar Abbott Jr. was tragically cut short. On January 15, 2023, Shreveport Police were called to the Sleep Inn Hotel on Klug Pines, where they found the young man suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of first responders, Abbott succumbed to his injuries.
Initial reports from the scene indicated that Gerald Abbott Jr. had sustained gunshot wounds to his chest and possibly his head.
The Caddo Parish Coroner’s office later confirmed his identity. His death was investigated as the fourth homicide in Shreveport for that year, sending ripples of grief and concern through the community.
In the days that followed, family and friends gathered to mourn the loss of the young man. Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at the New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, followed by his interment at Lincoln Cemetery. While the investigation into his death was launched promptly by Shreveport Police detectives, details regarding a motive or potential suspects have not been publicly released. As of now, no arrests have been announced in connection with the shooting, and the case remains an open investigation.
