In the early morning hours of July 9, 2020, the life of 17-year-old Deveonte Jeter was tragically cut short in Shreveport, Louisiana. An African American male, Jeter was a passenger in a vehicle driving on David Raines Road when the unthinkable happened. At approximately 1:00 a.m., as the car turned onto Peach Street, another vehicle of an unknown make and model approached and its occupants opened fire.
Multiple gunshots were fired into the vehicle, with several striking Jeter in the
head and upper body. He was gravely wounded and immediately rushed to Ochsner LSU Health for emergency medical treatment. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, his injuries proved to be too severe. Deveonte Jeter was pronounced dead at 10:36 a.m. that same morning, with the Caddo Parish Coroner's Office confirming the cause of death as a gunshot wound.
Shreveport Police Department's Violent Crimes Detectives launched an investigation into the homicide, with the crime scene located near the intersection of David Raines Road and Peach Street. To date, no arrests have been made in connection with Deveonte Jeter's murder. Authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward and have offered a cash reward for tips leading to the arrest of those responsible for this senseless act of violence. The case remains an active and ongoing investigation as Jeter's family and community continue to await justice.
