On a tragic evening in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, a 21-year-old woman named Rajanee Williams lost her life in a burst of gunfire. The incident unfolded on January 27, 2023, behind a residence in the 3300 block of Mission Drive, near Winbourne Avenue. When authorities arrived at the scene around 7:00 p.m., they discovered Williams and an 18-year-old male, Dejonte Williams, both suffering from gunshot wounds. Rajanee was pronounced dead at the scene, having been shot in the head.
The initial investigation left the motive and the identity of any suspects unknown to law enforcement. Dejonte Williams was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, where he later succumbed to his injuries. For over two years, the case remained a painful mystery for the families of the two victims and the Baton Rouge community.
A significant breakthrough in the investigation came in February 2025. The U.S. Marshals Task Force located and arrested 26-year-old Keante Burton in Concordia Parish. Burton was subsequently extradited to Baton Rouge and booked on two counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of Rajanee Williams and Dejonte Williams, bringing a long-awaited sense of progress to a case that had grown cold.
