In the Algiers neighborhood of New Orleans, on the evening of April 23, 2023, a burst of gunfire shattered the night, tragically ending the life of 36-year-old Ellis Brown. Responding to a call of a man shot shortly before 9:00 p.m., New Orleans Police Department officers arrived at the 1100 block of Odeon Street to a grim scene. They discovered Ellis Brown on the sidewalk, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical services were dispatched to the location and quickly
transported Brown to a local hospital in a desperate attempt to save his life. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, his injuries proved to be too severe, and he was pronounced deceased shortly after his arrival. The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office later officially identified the victim and determined the cause of death to be a homicide.
In the weeks that followed, the New Orleans Police Department launched an intensive investigation into the fatal shooting. As detectives worked to piece together the events that led to the violence, they identified a person of interest in the case. Authorities publicly named Tameka Watts, a 44-year-old woman, as someone who may possess information pertinent to the investigation. The NOPD clarified that while they were seeking her for questioning, she was not wanted in connection with the incident at that time. The investigation remains ongoing as law enforcement continues to gather evidence and seek information from the public to identify the person or persons responsible for Ellis Brown's death.
