On April 24, 2023, a homicide occurred in Houma, Louisiana, resulting in the death of 16-year-old Sidney Nelson Jr., a student at Central Lafourche High School and a native of Raceland.
The Houma Police Department initiated an investigation into the incident. As a result of their inquiry, arrest warrants were issued for suspects involved in the shooting. The first set of arrest warrants were announced on April 26, 2023.
