On what should have been a night of celebration, 20-year-old Imani Williams, a Black female, was tragically killed on May 12, 2023, in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Southern University student was out celebrating her 20th birthday with a friend, Ja'Diamond Jones, also 20 years old. The two young women were leaving a hookah lounge in the Treme neighborhood when they were both fatally shot.
Williams was struck by multiple bullets and died at the scene.
Imani was a student at Southern University A&M College's School of Business and was also a talented hairstylist. Her friend, Ja'Diamond Jones, was just days away from her own milestone, her graduation from a community college's nursing program. The sudden and violent deaths of the two young women sent shockwaves through their communities.
In the wake of the shooting, the New Orleans Police Department began an investigation into the double homicide. While they have reportedly been searching for two vehicles that may be connected to the crime, authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or a possible motive for the killings. The case remains under investigation, leaving the family and friends of Imani Williams waiting for answers and justice.
