In the summer of 2023, the life of 18-year-old JoTrevious Tremaine Hawthorne was cut short by gunfire in Shreveport, Louisiana. On the late evening of July 28th, Hawthorne was inside a residence in the 4300 block of Ridgeway Avenue when bullets were fired from outside, striking and fatally wounding him. He was a Black male. The incident marked another tragic loss to gun violence in the community.
