In the summer of 2023, the life of 18-year-old JoTrevious Tremaine Hawthorne was cut short by gunfire in Shreveport, Louisiana. On the late evening of July 28th, Hawthorne was inside a residence in the 4300 block of Ridgeway Avenue when bullets were fired from outside, striking and fatally wounding him. He was a Black male. The incident marked another tragic loss to gun violence in the community.
The investigation into Hawthorne's death led authorities to identify multiple suspects.
On August 25, 2023, Caddo Parish Sheriff's detectives arrested 21-year-old Kevin Hunter in connection with the homicide. Hunter was subsequently charged with one count of second-degree murder and booked into the Caddo Correctional Center.
As the investigation continued, a second suspect was identified. An arrest warrant was issued for 19-year-old Jakendrion Gay, also of Shreveport. Law enforcement officials have sought public assistance in locating Gay, who is wanted for his alleged involvement in the fatal shooting of JoTrevious Hawthorne. The case underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to address gun violence and bring those responsible to justice.
