In the Queensborough neighborhood of Shreveport, Louisiana, a verbal dispute on November 8, 2016, tragically cut short the life of 16-year-old Tremon Jackson. The young African American male was outside a residence when the argument erupted. Following the exchange, as Tremon Jackson walked away, multiple gunshots were fired. He was struck by the gunfire but managed to run a short distance before collapsing.
Family members found the wounded teenager and rushed him to University Health, but his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead. The Shreveport Police Department's investigation into the homicide quickly pointed to 18-year-old Sirdetrick Samuels as the person responsible for the shooting. Witnesses reported hearing the shots shortly after the verbal altercation between Samuels and Jackson.
Authorities secured a warrant for Samuels' arrest on a charge of second-degree murder. Four days after the fatal shooting, on November 12, 2016, Sirdetrick Samuels surrendered to the police and was taken into custody. His bond was subsequently set at $500,000. The case proceeded through the legal system, and Samuels was ultimately convicted of the lesser charge of manslaughter in connection with Tremon Jackson's death. On March 27, 2018, a judge sentenced Samuels to a 50-year prison term for the killing.
