Sistrane Edwards, a 53-year-old male, tragically lost his life on July 31, 2023, in Ville Platte, Louisiana. His death occurred during a shootout that erupted as a multi-agency law enforcement team was executing a warrant at a residence suspected of being a drug house. The exchange of gunfire resulted in the deaths of both Edwards and Ville Platte Deputy Marshal Barry Giglio.
Another individual was also critically wounded in the incident.
Following the deadly encounter, an investigation was launched by Louisiana State Police. The investigation led to Vonteeko Lamar Anderson, 23, being identified as the suspect in the shootings. Anderson was subsequently arrested and taken into custody at the Evangeline Parish Jail.
Initially, Vonteeko Lamar Anderson was booked on drug and weapons charges. However, as the investigation progressed, the charges against him were upgraded. He now faces a charge of first-degree murder for the deaths of Sistrane Edwards and Deputy Marshal Barry Giglio. The case against him is proceeding through the justice system.
