In the late summer of 2023, the community of Springfield, Louisiana, was shaken by the violent death of a young man. On the morning of Monday, August 7th, gunshots shattered the peace on Wisteria Lane. When Livingston Parish Sheriff's deputies arrived at the scene shortly before 11 a.m., they discovered the body of 25-year-old Cameron Fox, a resident of Springfield. He had been fatally shot.
The investigation into the death of the male victim quickly pointed to a robbery gone wrong.
Within a couple of days, a collaborative effort between multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office, Louisiana State Police Fugitive Task Force, and the U.S. Secret Service, led to the apprehension of three individuals. The alleged shooter was identified as 19-year-old Lorenzo McFarland, who was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder and armed robbery. Also arrested were 19-year-old Laterrice Davis and a 17-year-old male, whose name was withheld due to his juvenile status. Both were charged as principals to first-degree murder and armed robbery.
As the investigation continued, a fourth suspect was identified and located. On the Friday following the shooting, 22-year-old Devion Miller was arrested in Panama City Beach, Florida. Miller also faces charges of principal to first-degree murder and principal to armed robbery. Following their arrests, the suspects were held in various correctional facilities. McFarland was initially booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison, Davis was held at the Livingston Parish Detention Center, and the juvenile was taken to the Florida Parishes Juvenile Detention Center. Livingston Parish Sheriff Jason Ard described the incident as a 'senseless death & young lives ruined,' and indicated that the investigation was ongoing with the possibility of more arrests.
