On a Friday afternoon in Plaquemine, Louisiana, Donnie Ray Brown, a 65-year-old man, was shot twice. The incident occurred on Folse Street, near Bayou Plaquemine. Brown was quickly transported to a local hospital, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries on August 11, 2023. Known affectionately as Donald Ray, his death was a result of gun violence.
Within hours of the shooting, law enforcement officials identified a suspect, 39-year-old Vicimin Stevens.
Evidence left at the scene of the crime played a crucial role in his identification. Stevens was located and apprehended in West Baton Rouge. He now faces a charge of second-degree murder in connection with Donnie Ray Brown's death.
Subsequent investigation by the Iberville Parish Sheriff's Office, with assistance from divers from the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office, led to the recovery of what is believed to be the murder weapon from a nearby waterway.
